Aims & Objectives

The primary objective for which the Alliance is formed is to bring together the residents and organisations of Wester Ross to promote the sustainable development of the area as a prosperous and socially inclusive place where all may enjoy a high-quality of life, well-being and self-confidence, now and for generations to come.

In pursuit of this objective, the Alliance shall:

a) provide a framework within which the people of Wester Ross  may work together for their collective benefit;
b) empower the community to set its own priorities and plans for economic, social, cultural and environmental development, and promote and support the pursuit of these;
c) develop and promote Wester Ross as a safe, healthy and desirable place to live and work, building on its established qualities, resources and opportunities;
d) encourage and support economic development, building upon the natural and human resources of the area, and taking into account social, cultural and environmental impacts;
e) encourage, support and promote the development of sustainable tourism in the area;
f) enhance and promote the provision of and access for all to training, education and personal development, to develop the capabilities and confidence of individuals and the community;
g) develop and promote recreational, leisure and other community facilities for individuals and
organisations in Wester Ross, in the interests of social, economic and cultural welfare;
h) work with other organisations and agencies operating in the area to support the improvement of the economic, social, cultural and environmental well-being of the residents of Wester Ross;
i) establish and maintain links with other communities and organisations outwith the area to encourage mutually beneficial social, educational, cultural and economic partnerships;
j) establish, operate, promote and work with other sustainable development schemes for the benefit of the people of Wester Ross;
k) identify and represent the opportunities, challenges and needs of the people of Wester Ross to local, national and international bodies;
l) publicise and promote the work of the Alliance, and in such a way that:
  i) none of the objects set forth in any sub-section of this section shall be restrictively construed but the widest interpretation shall be given to each such object, and none of such objects shall, except where the context expressly so requires, be in any way limited or restricted by reference to or inference from any other object or objects set forth in such sub-section, or by reference to or inference from the name of the Alliance.
  ii) none of the sub-sections of this section and none of the objects therein specified shall be deemed subsidiary or ancillary to any of the objects specified in any other such sub-section, and the Alliance shall have as full a power to exercise each and every one of the objects specified in each sub-section of this section as though each such sub-section contained the objects of a separate company.
And provided that the objects of the Alliance shall not extend to the regulation of relations between workers and employers or organisations of workers and organisations of employers.
